i just read your blog this morning and i give you so much credit. i really enjoy getting them and this particular one this morning had me sitting in my computer chair crying. sometimes i feel like i am the only one and that i am somewhat of a failure.
Then I also got this email from my mom.
I have the same problem. I notice that if I have something that has to get done like for a trip to go on then I am gung ho. I rush around and clean up or sort or whatever. Its like I don't want to come back to a lot to do. So that tells me in order to be motivated I have to have a goal.
That got my thinking, that is totally me, when we went to MO for the week, when we left that was the cleanest my house has been in along time. So hmm maybe that is what I need to do, start having little goals through out the day. For instance, a clean kitchen sink, and mine always has something in it so this would be a miracle. Or no folded clothes on the top of the dryer at the end of the day. Now not sure how this will work on everything I have to do, but it might help with he small daily chores.
So this is what I am going to try , no TO DO lists, but daily goal lists. And of course we will again so how this works out, it may get changed in a week, but that will be ok. SO my Goal list for today.
GOALS FOR TODAY
top of dryer empty
empty sink
empty dish drainer
clean living room floor, not including sons trains
10 V-day cards completed

I just read your previous post 'Brain' - I know exactly what you mean. Last Friday I had a massive rant about it to my Mum and then to dh. This week we are going to start decorating (to cheer me up!). I also agree with needing a goal - it is amazing how much I can get done in the 20 mins after dh has phoned me to say he is on the way home!
don't forget...if you don't finish everything on your goal list, you didn't fail, it just has to go to the next day. this is my biggest problem. I make a list of daily goals, and I get one thing done because a million other things happen! then I start beating myself up about it, and cannot sleep which starts the problem of the brain drain. You are so not alone, and it is always a "learning" experience! Hope you get your goals complete!! ((Hugs))
I hope you meet your goals. I really need to start doing something like that. I think I'll start trying to get what I can done during Joey's first nap and see how that goes. Love you bunches.
G'day,today is the first time I've visited your blog ... and I was very interested in your train of thought. I really think you are being a bit hard on yourself, being a SAHM isn't an easy job, 'yes' I said 'job' and that it is. As a friend of mine used to say 'you don't know how well a 'job' you have done until your kids get to be at least 25 or have children of their own' This is when they really appreciate what Mum has done for them by staying at home and being there for them. I used to have the same torment when my kids were young & like your Mum said [we must be around the same age... ha ha] when something special was coming I'd be just so organised. Once I looked at my life as my job I did become more organised as when you are working you have to have a routine but of course there are still 'those' days. I really don't know any kids that notice if the clothes are folded, dishes done or the dust on the mantel - they just know Mum is there when they need them ... Of course 'life' keeps changing the distance of the goal posts on you - now I'm at the retired stage [younger retiree] so I can spend much more time doing art & stuff but I really have to be disciplined with myself to achieve what I want that day but I still have 'those' days...
Sorry this is such a long comment but I worked with young Mum's & their children and I always told them & wanted them to know they are doing a GREAT & very worthwhile 'job' and if you must beat yourself up do it with a Feather not a rod as a Feather makes you laugh and laughter is so good for the soul. So, my new goal:
If I get nothing else done tomorrow, I will have no clean (folded or not) clothes not put away at the end of the day. Hey, baby steps.
